Wetaskiwin Tomorrow project announced
The City of Wetaskiwin is proud to announce the formation of Wetaskiwin Tomorrow – a locally led initiative to create a plan for a better city.
“This project is an opportunity for the people of Wetaskiwin to look at the kind of city we want and then to take the right steps to move there,” said Bill Elliot, City of Wetaskiwin Alderman and chair of the newly formed committee. “We want to provide an outlet for the wisdom and expertise of community members so we can discover innovative solutions that address today’s challenges while leaving a positive legacy for future generations.”
The ultimate goal of Wetaskiwin Tomorrow is to create a plan that will help guide Wetaskiwin City Council when decisions have to be made about the future of the City. The plan will help set the City’s direction when it comes to areas like business development, social services, cultural activities, and environmental protection.
To spearhead the project, the City is in the midst of forming a committee of local volunteers and has hired former communications consultant and local resident Lucas Warren to help coordinate the nearly two year process.
“This is an exciting project with endless possibilities,” said Warren. “Over the last few years the City has collected a lot of great feedback from residents during town-hall meetings and other consultations. Along with getting more input from the community over the next few months, [the committee] is also going to be looking at all of this past work to get the most accurate picture of where the people of Wetaskiwin want to take this city.”
What to get involved?
Right now, the process is just beginning and the City is look for volunteers who have a passion for Wetaskiwin and an interest in its future.
