A kids in the hall-type bistro would be excellent. Coffee shops have come and gone but each has enjoyed short-term popularity. I think, to help the open mic concept along, we might need some sort of artists group to go along with it. It's one thing to manage a coffee bar and quite another to corral artists/musicuans and arrange entertainment schedules.

I think this would be a great Idea! I know Wetaskiwin might be lacking in Retail things and such but I think that more things like this should come in before hand. I was very upset when I found out that the old Home Hardware store they had been working on for so long turned out to be an Optometrists, I was greatly hoping to see a bar and restaurant go in there. But yes, a fabulous idea.

... If business isn't willing to pick up on this need do you think there would be some interest in starting something like the 'kids in the hall bistro' in Edmonton? It's a blend of downtown bistro with work experience for at risk youth. If we take that concept and/or model and apply it to a coffee shop ... maybe? Here's the link:

I agree. We need a welcoming atmosphere where community members can come together and share the joys of coffee, tea, and music past 6pm. I also love the idea of an open mic.
