I would consider that a cop out. Not opening a business because something looks dirty? Chances are the person who would lease the property to you would make improvements to the property if there was some revenue generated from the property.

Tax incentives would have to be given to the property owners on mainstreet for something like this to happen with a high vacancy rate to offset the expenses w/o raising rent.

I agree, I'm disgusted by the way things are kept in this town. It's not a good way to attract new business if our current places of business look the way they do. I look at Camrose and it's downtown area, it's always clean, and the stores are always updated and kept looking fresh and new. Business around here is falling apart, like your title says, A can of paint does not cost that much.

Interesting. I was just in Cairo a few months ago, and every morning the store owners would sweep in front of their shops and even wash down the pavement to keep things clean and inviting for potential consumers. Apparently this happens in quite a few places in the world, and we should ask why it has stopped here...__Sorry, Jackle, to hear about your loss of interest in estabilishing a business in Wetaskiwin because of the current state of the businesses...and I bet you're not the only prospective business that was turned off by it. Hopefully this turns around in the future soon! Perhaps you can aid the cause by getting the word out that a clean-up would help, yeah?

No kidding! I think that the lack of care these owners put into their stores is disgraceful. This is really something that bothers me a great deal here in Wetaskiwin. Things left without care, old signs still hanging around the city that should be taken down, buildings all old and not tidy. Last year I was about to start a business in Wetaskiwin but I decided not to because of this reason and others, if this changed and other things like this I might reconsider, but it's things like this that are stopping people, like me for an example.
