Suit yourself
I just received an email from Moyra Kennedy our local business and industry liaison for the province. It was about setting something up in Wetaskiwin similar to Suit Yourself, an Edmonton-based charitable organization which collects and distributes quality clothing and accessories, free of charge, to low-income women who are seeking employment or making a transition in the workforce.
Here’s what Moyra had to say:
“Good afternoon ladies and Wetaskiwin Tomorrow. I was approached the other day by a local businesses woman, who was inquiring if we had such a service locally. The website above is about an Edmonton volunteer unit set up to assist women who are or have completed an employment or training program and have interviews lined up, of lower incomes and can’t afford to dress it up for the interview. They provide the suit and accessories, jewelry, purse, shoes and over coat, and then will also provide a couple of more outfits once they have the job and until their pay cheques come through. What an awesome idea. Now Lokken used to have something like this, they asked for donations of such. Please check this program out.
If there is anyone interested, we could set something up for Wetaskiwin. I bring this to your attention as this local business woman is donating items to them, but would have preferred to do so locally first. Note this unit lists what they prefer, and will turn down unusable items, they won’t accept clothing more than 7 years old, it must be in excellent condition, cleaned, on a hanger, ect. Why accept garbage, the point is to dress them up, not down.”
So is anyone in Wetaskiwin interesting in starting something like this?
