Where: The Moose Hall, 4915 49 Street Wetaskiwin, Alberta
When: May 12th, 2010 – from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM
On May 12th, 2010 the Wetaskiwin RCMP will be hosting a Crime Prevention Workshop for the general public. No cost for admission, the Workshop will show case Volunteer Groups and a number of guest speakers from various policing and social backgrounds.
One of the presentations scheduled for the afternoon will be done by representatives from the RCMP Family Violence Unit and will highlight key strategies on how to identify and prevent Family Violence.
Whether it is physical or psychological abuse, “Family violence transcends socio-economic status, education and culture.” Averaging approximately 45 family violence related calls per month, the Wetaskiwin RCMP established a Family Violence Unit in September 2008 as part of their commitment with the Province of Alberta to establish safe and healthy communities.
Working together to offer the best service and support for the Wetaskiwin area, the Family Violence Unit consists of representatives from the RCMP, Victim Services and Children and Youth Services. A collaborative effort to share resources and information, the Family Violence Unit has demonstrated success in identifying victim needs and support for families at risk. Actively liaising with various government agencies, the Family Violence Unit offers information on Family Counseling, Rehabilitation Programs and various Law Enforcement options.
Believing it is everyone’s responsibility to report ALL Domestic and Family Violence occurrences, the Wetaskiwin RCMP encourage the public to attend their Crime Prevention Workshop on May 12th and learn more about how they can get involved and build a safer Community.
