There is a big difference between retail & economy. In the past 10 years efforts have been made to try & get more jobs in this town we have failed on each attempt. A packing plant, warehousing & even trying something as absurd as lengthening the runway at the airport to try & become a bedroom community for Fort McMurray.

I believe we need to try & persuade some more manufacturing jobs or warehousing positions along with making housing available, affordable & attractive. Having jobs for inhabitants is what makes the economy work, not by having retail stores. Retail will come when our residents break the magic household income number.

We should be asking questions of our politicains why we need to send a 5 member ‘dream team’ to a retail conference when larger centers send 1 delegate. Will we as tax payers have to spring another lump of money to send a committe to the Western Canada Business Forum in Kananaskis on March 22 – 24th of this year? Why did we have to buy a booth at the Whistler trade show? There is a manager for the retail property in Edmonton, isn’t it their job to find tenants?
