The county campgrounds need better rates that more fair for the average joe.

Currently the rate is per unit. This means the rate is the same for a 47 foot RV and it is for a tiny 2 person tent. Problem is a family will use 3 tents and pay 3 times more than the richer family that brought an 30 foot RV that sleeps everyone.

This flat rate also causes campsite to be used up faster. Why share a campsite with your folks when you pay the same rate for your own campsite.

We would save a lot more space over the long weekend if we discounted each additional tent and encourage family members to set up on the same site.

If I owned a campground my rate would look something like this.

Flat nightly rate per site: $20

  • Additional tent: $10
  • Additional camper or van: $20
  • Additional RV: $25 only at sites approved for multiple RVs

With these rates an adult son would set up his tent on the same lot as his parents in stead of wasting space and setting up on a nearby site that would otherwise let another happy camper into the campground.
