On May 26, City of Wetaskiwin Mayor Bill Elliot presented a commemorative plaque to Marji Johns of Victoria, BC. Marji is the granddaughter of Richard W. (Dick) Ryan, one of four individuals inducted this year into Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame. Mayor Elliot also presented her with a proclamation, passed by the City of Wetaskiwin Council, declaring Dick Ryan as an honourary citizen of Wetaskiwin.
Mayor Elliot personally presented similar plaques and proclamations to the other three individuals — Donald Hamilton, Bill Wheeler, and John Crichton.
The event was held this year at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, adjacent to the Hamilton International Airport.
