Update to regulations reflects more ‘business friendly’ approach

More exposure + greater opportunities = a more business friendly Wetaskiwin.

In line with recommendations in the Wetaskiwin Tomorrow Community Vision and the Roadmap to Prosperity, on August 22, Wetaskiwin City Council approved changes to the Land Use Bylaw (1747-09) to allow for local businesses and groups more advertising options.

“This is a positive change for our businesses and Wetaskiwin in general,” said Bill Elliot, Mayor of the City of Wetaskiwin. “The original bylaw accomplished its purpose of cleaning up our community. It’s important that we continue to ensure our regulations meet the changing needs of our businesses.”

The regulation changes include new allowances for off-site signage, additional billboard locations and less restrictions on pawn and liquor store advertising. The updates were part of the  recommendations made by a committee comprised of experts, elected officials and business representatives.

The committee process included public meetings, online consultation and surveys as well as direct input from Wetaskiwin organizations and businesses.
