During Senior’s Week we interviewed some of our centenarians and explored their thoughts on life, change and Wetaskiwin.
Name: Mae Parker
Birthdate: March 22, 1911
CITY: Where were you born?
MAE: I was born in Scotland, and came to Canada when I was 8 years old.
C: What was your occupation?
M: I was a book keeper.
C:How long have you lived in Wetaskiwin?
M: For 2 years. I moved to Wetaskiwin from Edmonton.
C: What do you think is wonderful about Wetaskiwin?
M: It’s a nice little city.
C: What is your secret to a long life?
M: Being stubborn. They wont get rid of me.
C: What is the most amazing thing you’ve seen in your 100+ years?
M: The first ‘square box’ phone we had (#6707) that was fastened to the wall.
C: What is one piece of advice you would give to someone who is just starting out in life?
M: Do what you have to do, even if you don’t like it.
C: What is one thing that you would go back and do differently if you had the chance?
M: I don’t think I would do anything differently.
C: What was the most difficult thing you had to endure?
M: Going to school, as I was picked on a lot for my accent, and my husband passing away.
