Community groups share $46,000-plus

Community groups and programs in Wetaskiwin and area won’t have to do 100 per cent of their fundraising on their own this year.

Thanks to the pair of City-based programs – the Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) grant program and the grant in aid program, the latter headed up by the Wetaskiwin Recreation Board – city council unanimously agreed to give more than $46,000 to a bevy of Wetaskiwin and area organizations.

Citizens for Safe and Healthy Communities

Citizens for Safe and Healthy Communites (CSHC) is a network of community partners representing the Town Millet, Hobbema, the City of Wetaskiwin and the County of Wetaskiwin that work together as a team to 1) Promote positive lifestyle behaviors; 2) Empower citizens to take responsibility for their community; and 3)Increase education and awareness to promote safe and healthy communities.

Family Violence Presentation

On May 12th, 2010 the Wetaskiwin RCMP will be hosting a Crime Prevention Workshop for the general public. No cost for admission, the Workshop will show case Volunteer Groups and a number of guest speakers from various policing and social backgrounds. One of the presentations scheduled for the afternoon will be done by representatives from the RCMP Family Violence Unit and will highlight key strategies on how to identify and prevent Family Violence.

I don’t hear scheming and plans for vagrancy

Whenever I spend even a few moments in the Neighbors Outreach of Wetaskiwin, I hear stories of heartache and struggle and yearning, aching for change. I don’t hear scheming and plans for vagrancy!
There are definite and workable possibilities to address these struggles and addictions, we simply need to welcome these, not fear them, as a community!!!
