Roads & Side Walks
The one thing I'd like to see get done after so many years is the deplorable roads/side walks. I know that currently the road to the lake is getting done, that's great, but don't stop there, the main street, the many side walks with bumps and cracks, it is not wheelchair friendly, anywhere in town....
What is good about Wetaskiwin??
Well, for starters, we need to fire 90% of city council and get people who are pro-business instead of anti-business. Wetaskiwin needs to get rid of many of its stupid by-laws such as sign bylaws, dictating business hours etc. That sure attracts business.
‘The basics of our city need to be fixed’
"I believe that the city should be asking what areas around the town the citizens would like to see fixed or bettered, things that the city can actually do. Not to mention the road to By-The-Lake-Park, that's an attraction Wetaskiwin has, it's a shame however that it is so terribly hard to drive up there,...
How about the City in Slow Motion?
"I really like the city and location. I would however like the city to take a different approach to planning. How about the city in "slow motion"? Slow as in positive slow. Less hustle and bustle, more family time, more local food, less fast food."
City writeup in Canadian Business Journal
Make sure to check out the nice writeup of Wetaskiwin in the November issue of The Canadian Business Journal. A lot of positive words, with a solid mention of the Wetaskiwin Tomorrow initiative ...
Welcoming Wetaskiwin
What could the City of Wetaskiwin do to create a more inclusive and welcoming city? How could social, cultural and economic conditions be improved to allow for this, and how could the City of Wetaskiwin facilitate and/or create opportunities that would allow for a more inclusive and welcoming community?
Campground Suggestion
The county campgrounds need better rates that more fair for the average joe.
Currently the rate is per unit. This means the rate is the same for a 47 foot RV and it is for a tiny 2 person tent. Problem is a family will use 3 tents and pay 3 times more than the richer...
Our recycling program isn’t bad
Our recycling program isn’t bad. We really need to keep plastics in it. The problem is that many people don’t want to bother taking their stuff to the depot. I know it would be expensive, but curbside would encourage more participation. And we shouldn’t allow those huge garbage cans that some people fill every week...
Community groups share $46,000-plus
Community groups and programs in Wetaskiwin and area won't have to do 100 per cent of their fundraising on their own this year.
Thanks to the pair of City-based programs – the Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) grant program and the grant in aid program, the latter headed up by the Wetaskiwin Recreation Board –...
Cars cost less in Wetaskiwin, but everything else costs more.
Wetaskiwin needs a new rec centre/pool that is a permanent structure (not a tent that I heart about). Also, we need more retail stores here because I do not wish to have to drive to Leduc or Camrose to shop. (As for Walmart, I never shop there but have been told that prices are more...
Hire some of the folks that attend the Neighbors Outreach of Wetaskiwin
[H]ire, part time, some of the folks that attend the Neighbors Outreach of Wetaskiwin center. There are often a number of out of work that are very capable of taking on some day projects or even some multi-day projects. Contact the Network Co-ordinator at the NOW building – Lauralee Fanning [780-352-8428] as there is a...
Communication between the residents and city hall has been severed
Those at city hall seem to be living in a world all their own. Communication between the residents of Wetaskiwin and City hall has been severed by city council's decision to remove advertising from the Wetaskiwin Times because the council is offended by citizens comments. I don’t read the Pipestone Flyer because I don’t live...
